History repeats at Nagapillayar Thiru Kovil, Kovaipudur

The third Kumbhabhishekam of Arulmigu Nagapillayar Thirukovil, Kovaipudur was performed on 10th February 2019 with pomp and gaiety. Starting with mangala isai and Vinayagar pooja at 6 am on 7th Feb., the rituals went on for three days performing 17 archanas, culminating in Kumbhabishekam performed in two phases from 8.30 am to 9.30 am on 10th Feb. This was followed by maha annadanam starting from 12 noon. Some 2500 people availed of this maha prasadam in the specially erected pandal.

The highlight of the evening program was the Pattimanram conducted by Kavinjar Mullai Natavarasu who engaged, entertained and enthralled the mammoth audience.

Subsequently, the mandala pooja was started from 11th Feb. The pooja performed at 6.15 pm everyday will go on till 30th March 2019 with sangabhishekam being performed 108 times for the welfare of all.

Holy waters from rivers Bhavani, Pamba, Kaveri and Tampirparumi, Rameswarm and Kanyakumari were used to consecrate the deities on this historic and the most auspicious day.

The first kumbhabhishekam of Nagapillayar Thirukovil was performed at the time of pratishtai -anavarthanam on 25th March 1991, and the 2nd Kumbhabhishekam (1st kudamulak avarthanam) on 21st June 2004. The 2nd kudamulak avarthanam was held on 10th Feb. 2018.

Arulmigu Nagapillayar in Kovaipudur is a crowd pulling deity. Located in the prime locality of ‘U’ block, the deity is facing the west. Devotees believe that this position makes the deity very powerful.
